What it says

Daring attempt to blow open a Chubb's safe with gunpowder. ... made an attempt with gunpowder to blow open the Large Safe, which I purchased from you about three years ago, but to no purpose. Chubb and Son, Lock and Fire-proof Safe Makers, 57, St. Paul's-churchyard.

The burglars brought gunpowder; the strained lock still opened with its key the next morning. Chubb printed the customer's whole letter.
